Mad Day Out by Stephen Goldblatt

We're proud to have been given the opportunity to produce this high profile, and significant book for local non-profit organization Fotovison. Fotovision is run by Ken and Melanie light, and together with photographer and film-maker Stephen Goldblatt they've released a truly fun set of unseen photographs of the Beatles from very early in their career.

Along with a talk at UC Berkeley, and exhibition, and print sales, Fotovision has put together this great book complete with a beautiful box and a signed exhibition print. We're posting a link below which will allow you to order books so long as a few are left. It is a very custom piece, which might just attain quite a bit of value.

The Golden Decade by Ira Latour, Cameron Macauley, & Bill Heick

ansel adams
This post is a little late in coming as the associated exhibition is already coming down. The exhibit was a huge success, and both runs of the book we made for it are sold out in advance. The relevance of this book, the photographers showcased, and their collected works cannot be over-stated.
Though many of the image-makers included became famous in their own right, their teachers name's have overshadowed their successes and to a certain extent this 'Golden Group' never received the recognition they deserve. The Golden Decade aims to remedy this, and does so with a level of thoroughness and care which is really unmatched by many if any other self-published works we have seen. The massive book is beautifully designed, well researched, and a pleasure to study.

There are rumors that this exhibit will be up again in 2011 in the Bay Area, and we'll be sure to post that news here if it materializes.

Round Robin by Daniela Strijleva, Katy Wu, Jennifer C. Chang

Daniela Strijleva, Katy Wu, and Jennifer C. Chang, are artists from the acclaimed Pixar Animated Studio. They have combined their talents to create a really great book. They had a very specific vision that worked with the stock Edition One materials perfectly. The book is a pleasure to hold in the hands with a nice red foil stamp on our white linen cover stock. The inside of the cover is printed (0/4), and that touch really finished the book off nicely. The title, Round Robin, describes a game in which all of the illustrations are linked by a set of words; it keeps you turning each page with delight as you immediately associate the lady illustrator's style as that of the big screen.

The book is available for sale from the author's websites and it would be a fantastic holiday gift!

Daneila Strijleva
Katy Wu
Jennifer C. Chang

Book Details:
15 full color illustrations
Opaque Soft Cover: 7"x8.5" with red foil stamp and inside cover printing.

Thank you for visiting our booth!

Thanks to all of you who visited our booth last week in NYC. We are always excited to meet with our customers - both new and current. Overall, the feedback we got from you East Coast photographers and designers was great. We left confident that the higher-quality and more custom approach we are taking is the right one for those serious about their work and how it is presented. NYC customers make up a large percentage of our business, and we hope to be back soon with more samples and more person to person contact. Thanks again - Edition One Staff

Nikole Lim - While Women Weep

Nikole Lim calls herself a visual documentarian. The title is apt. Her beautiful images tell vivid stories which the viewer cannot help but engage. The photographs remind us of Salgado's cocoa farmers, or perhaps Mary Ellen Mark's Falkand road women.

Her book, While Women Weep is now in its third printing with us here at Edition One Books. The book candidly portrays the lives and stories of several Kenyan women. Her work is both intimate and considerate - one feels her empathy for her subjects, and the work seems honest in its treatment of truly terrible issues. Powerful stories accompany the images. The photographic work could stand on its own, but the text completes the project properly.

Below are some images of this beautiful bound work. The book is available for sale, and all proceeds benefit widows and orphans in Kenya. Be sure to check out the documentary film that accompanies the book.

Journal of the In-Between Places by John Coding

It's been a long while since we've posted a book on this blog. John's book below has been a staff favorite since the day we bound it. In fact, it is not a recent project at all. John's work reminds us of Gary Winogrand's iconic work from the same streets and alleyways.

John Coding, an English photographer living in NY, has had a long fascination with street photography. This book is about the beauty of moments found in the In-between places. It was shot both digitally and on film. The work spans two years of New York City wanderings. The Book has been very well received and he is looking to expand his work.
